Attend Our Guided Walks!

Save Texas Streams' guided walks invite the greater Austin community to slow down and connect with the unique natural beauty of Barton Creek, Barton Springs, and the surrounding Hill Country. Led by naturalists and passionate volunteers, these walks offer participants the chance to learn about native plants, wildlife, geology, and the fragile ecosystems that make Central Texas so special.

More than just a hike, each walk is an opportunity to deepen one’s appreciation for the land and water Save Texas Streams works to protect. Whether exploring seasonal wildflowers, spotting wildlife, or discussing the history of conservation in the area, participants walk away inspired to care for and defend these irreplaceable natural treasures.

Guided Walk: Native Plants at Mueller Southwest Greenway

 June 13, 2026 | 8:30 - 10:30 AM
2833 1/2 Tom Miller Street, Austin, TX (the intersection of Berkman Drive and Tom Miller Street)

Join us for a 2-hour native plant walk at the Mueller Southwest Greenway. This will be a 1.5 mile out-and-back, easy walk with many stops to discuss native plants’ ecological functions, medicinal properties, and possible edibility. Some blooms have already come and gone, but there are now fruits to look at and yet still new flowers emerging as we "technically" enter summer.

The walk will be led by Andrew Harrod, our Board Vice President and Programs Director who is also a Wildlife and Fisheries major and Environmental Systems teacher. Andrew fell hard for native plants after joining the Texas Master Naturalists program in 2018.

All ages are welcome to attend, and dogs are okay if kept on a leash and cleaned up after. We will be meeting at the intersection of Berkman Drive and Tom Miller Street at 8:30 AM. Please arrive on time, as we are trying to beat the heat!
