Attend Our Guided Walks!

Save Texas Streams' guided walks invite the greater Austin community to slow down and connect with the unique natural beauty of Barton Creek, Barton Springs, and the surrounding Hill Country. Led by naturalists and passionate volunteers, these walks offer participants the chance to learn about native plants, wildlife, geology, and the fragile ecosystems that make Central Texas so special.

More than just a hike, each walk is an opportunity to deepen one’s appreciation for the land and water Save Texas Streams works to protect. Whether exploring seasonal wildflowers, spotting wildlife, or discussing the history of conservation in the area, participants walk away inspired to care for and defend these irreplaceable natural treasures.

Guided Walk: Hill of Life Night Hike

September 4, 2026 | 7:45 - 10 pm
Hill of Life Trailhead, 1710 Camp Craft Road, Austin, TX

Meet us at the Hill of Life Trailhead on Camp Craft Road for an interpretive night hike. We'll be led by our Board Vice President and seasoned Capital Area Master Naturalist, Andrew Harrod, who will identify and share some interesting facts about the nocturnal critters we encounter. By the end of this hike, you'll either walk away with a newfound confidence around nighttime wildlife or a new favorite way to explore Austin's parks — after dark!

We encourage folks to carpool if possible, as parking by the Hill of Life is $2/hour. Bring a flashlight or headlamp and ample water for hydration. Please note that this hike is on the more strenuous side — with a 500-foot elevation change — and plan accordingly. Dogs on leashes are welcome if well behaved and cleaned up after. The Greenbelt closes at 10 pm, so we'll wrap up before then. Join us for food and drinks afterwards if interested! Hope to see you on the trailhead!
